Huntsville/Madison County is a smart place to learn. Three school systems offer public K-12 education, and private schools are available from pre-K through secondary levels. Education initiatives in reading and math/science/technology have received national attention for their impact on student achievement.

Local schools offer academic and artistic options such as an International Baccalaureate Program, a technology school, a variety of magnet programs, and distance learning labs. Alabama is one of six states in the country to be selected for the National Math and Science Initiative’s Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program, and Huntville/Madison County schools are already seeing the impact of the program.

More than 90 percent of Huntsville’s graduates continue their education in post secondary institutions, and students have several choices in the Huntsville/Madison County area. Four-year schools include Alabama A&M University, Oakwood University and UAHuntsville. Two-year and technical degrees are available through Calhoun Community College and Drake State Technical College. Private and specialty school branches include Defense Acquisition University, Faulkner University, Florida Institute of Technology and Virginia College.
