On the green
Nestled in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and along the Tennessee River, Huntsville/Madison County offers unlimited opportunities for hiking, biking, golfing, outdoor exploration and water sports. The mild climate allows for outdoor enjoyment throughout much of the year. Monte Sano Mountain State Park provides a unique outlet for recreational opportunities, and the Land Trust has preserved more than 6,000 acres of green space and maintains more than 30 miles of hiking and biking trails in and around the city. The numerous natural caves in the area draw spelunkers from across the world, and the National Speleological Society is headquartered in Huntsville. Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail site in Hampton Cove is one of 14 public or private courses in the community. Just about any team or individual recreational activity can be found, from Ultimate Frisbee to cycling events with Spring City Cycling Club.
